Choosing your Moss Pole Size
Before you purchase, measure the height you'll need for your moss pole. Ideally, the pole should be taller than your plants highest vine to allow room for growth.
Extending
If you need a taller pole, you can easily extend them by stacking them and securing with cable ties.
Hydrating
Upon arrival, give your moss pole a light spray of water, as it may have dried out during transit. The sphagnum moss will expand as it absorbs moisture.
Positioning
- For smaller plants, simply push the wooden stakes into the soil for stability. You can adjust the length of the stakes by pulling them in and out.
- For larger all taller plants, remove the wooden stakes, you can repurpose these for your other houseplants. Repot your plant and position the pole deep into the pot. Firmly pack the soil around the base to keep it secure and to prevent tilting.
Soil Absorption Tip
The bottom few inches of the poles are left empty for soil placement. This helps prevent overwatering by allowing excess moisture to be absorbed before it reaches the plants roots.
Attaching Vines
Start by gently wrapping your plants vines around the moss pole, securing them with twine or plant Velcro. Focus on positioning each node directly against the moss pol, as this is where adventitious roots will develop.
Maintaining Moisture
Keep your moss pole damp to encourage roots to establish in the moss. Avoid oversaturating, as excessive moisture can lead to mould growth.
